John Calvin McCoy (b. Sept. 28, 1811, Vincennes, Ind.-d. Sept. 2, 1889, Kansas City, Mo.) was the son of Baptist missionaries Isaac and Christiana Polk McCoy. He studied at Transylvania College in Lexington, Kentucky, in 1826 and 1827, then moved to the Kansas City area in 1830 with his family. He and his first wife, Virginia Chick (d. 1849), had four children. He married the widow Elizabeth Woodson Lee in 1850, and they had four more children in addition to two by her first husband.
